Stratford Hall takes a Field Trip

Most of the time students take field trips to Stratford Hall, but sometimes the opportunity arises for Stratford to take a field trip. On Monday Stratford Hall participated in Richmond County Elementary School’s (Warsaw, VA) Social Studies Night. Teachers, families, students, and administrators were able to try some of the activities that we do in our school programs.

I was joined by Helen Brann, one of our interpreters, to show visitors how to grind corn, card wool, and play colonial games. I managed to get a picture before we got too busy. Next time we will bring more staff and activities because at times the room was packed.

This type of outreach is a priority of the Interpretation & Education Department because we have the chance to introduce Stratford to new people, highlight upcoming events, and demonstrate that history is fun.

We would like to thank Richmond County Elementary School for inviting us. We had a blast!

-Abigail Newkirk, Director of Interpretation & Education
